Women & swimming?

Why is it that when a lot of women go swimming, they try to keep getting their hair wet? Surely they could wear a swimming hat and arn't they going to fall properly after anyway? I'm not talking about women with complicated hairstyles either - Seems very strange to me.
Yes i advised of what your getting at really. I'm a woman i just do a back dive off the diving quarter. Most women don't get their hair wet for the simple fact they are trying to get noticed by the men in the reserves.
