Women's clothing -- What do you call the old-fashioned fine netting covering the face with some hats...?

Like widows or Universal women wore to church?

Were these always black, or in certain fashion eras (I am intellectual the 30's) could they be lighter colors for fashion?

As far as I recollect, they're simply called "veils." I about they were in fashion in the 50s (my grandmother had a couple), and she was in her 50s at time. My mom would have been considered too minor to wear one (she would have been in her 20s).
