Why did Catholic women stop wearing hats to church?

I've wondered why the Widespread women stopped wearing hats to church? I've lived across the street from a large Universal church for the last 50 years. This home was my parents, and when they both passed away at the same culture in a auto accident, I was left their home.

ALL people hand-me-down to wear hats whenever they went out in public, and Church was no exception.
