What is the real reason women used to wear those nets to lay over their faces with their hats in 1920s Europe?

It wasn't impartial in Europe, I know that it was done in the US as well.

A veil (that's what those nets were called) will soften and purloin hide the wearer's features. An older woman can look a bit younger, as it will soften the hint of wrinkles.
