What was the reason for the decline in the popularity of hats for men in the 20th century?

I look at photographs of crowds of men from the 1920's and 30's and find it ripping that almost every single man in the crowd wore a fedora, bowler, tophat or some other variation of the three above.

I've never heard a convincing exposition for this. The popularity of wearing hats that aren't baseball caps seems to have dropped in the modern development 1950s to 1960s. "Up until the 1950’s men were hardly ever seen out and about without a hat sitting upon their head.
